About the inn

Dreams of Yesteryear Victorian Bed and Breakfast is just a couple of blocks from the banks of the Wisconsin River, and a few minutes stroll from historic downtown Stevens Point, in the heart of Wisconsin.

The Queen Anne Victorian house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1901 by J.L. Jensen, it was designed by architect J.H. Jeffers, who is famous for having designed the Wisconsin Exhibit for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.

It remained in the Jensen family until 1987 when present owners Bonnie and Bill Maher renovated the house for their family home and nominated it for a listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The house gained that register listing in 1988. In 1990 the Mahers opened the house as a bed and breakfast.

The house is beautifully restored and is decorated with Victorian-style antiques. But each room has modern comforts, including high-speed internet and cable television.

The B&B serves a delicious gourmet breakfast, including pecan and strawberry-stuffed French toast, blueberry pancakes and eggs Benedict, among other morning delights.

The Ballroom Suite: $169

Located on the third floor of the house, the room was used for masquerade balls and parties. It features a queen bed, cathedral celing, spacious bathroom with whirlpool tub and shower, private sitting area, satellite TV and wireless internet.

The Heritage Suite: $145

The Heritage Suite contains photos and memorabilia from the early days of Stevens Point and Portage County. The room features a queen bed, wicker furnishings, antique leaded glass windows, a private sitting room, a walk-in, glass-walled shower, satellite TV and wireless internet.

The Isabella Room: $135

This room was named after a daughter of the Jensen family. The room features a queen bed, private bath with a claw foot tub, a water closet, antique sofa, satellite TV and wireless internet.

The Florence Myrna Room: $120

The "Flo" as we affectionately call this room, is a brightly lit space with windows overlooking the gardens. The Florence Myrna Room has a wrought iron queen-sized bed and a private bath with a neo-angular glass and ceramic walk-in shower.

Gareld's Room: $112

Gareld was the second generation Jensen who owned the house. The room features two twin beds or one king bed. It is near a balcony door, has three windows and has wireless internet. The room is on the second floor and shares a bath on the first floor.

Maid's Quarters: $102

Located at the top and left of the "maid's stairwell." Features a double bed, two big windows, and wireless internet. Shares a first-floor bathroom.

Amenities: Air conditioning, TV in 4 guest rooms, free wireless Internet, early morning coffee/tea available.

Nearby activities: Three historical museums, two museums at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, downtown arts center, antique shops, world-class golf courses, city parks, hiking and biking trails, downhill and cross-country skiing.

Nearby communities: Wisconsin Rapids (16 miles), Waupaca (23 miles), Mosinee (20 miles), Wausau (30 miles), Marshfield (35 miles)
